A First For Bassingbourn

The Cambridgeshire Repair Café Network Quilt was shown for the first time at the Bassingbourn-cum-Kneesworth Repair Café on 7 September 2024. The hope is to finish the quilt early next year once each of the Repair Cafés in the county has provided their blocks. Barbara Isherwood designed and quilted our block.

As usual the Repair Cafe was a success – lots of happy people went away with their items mended, or with information on the parts to buy.

55% of items were repaired, it was possible to identify what was wrong with the next 36% (a part needed to be bought), and only 9% were not repairable and went for recycling.

Perhaps the oddest item to be mended was an electronic tooth whitening device!

We had comments such as:

  • Incredible, I can’t imagine the device was repaired, I’m so impressed
  • Super!! Kind and helpful
  • Very helpful, good experience, lovely job everyone does here
  • Friendly and knowledgeable
  • Fantastic – everyone very helpful and I didn’t expect cake!!! – fab.

Thanks go to all our repairers, helpers and bakers, and to all those who gave donations so that we are able to cover our insurance and room hire costs.

The next event in Bassingbourn will be in the spring.

After we announce the date, please book your item in as early as possible to assist us with planning. Sadly, trying to book the night before is likely to lead to disappointment!
