Energy

The village uses huge amounts of heating oil and electricity (no mains gas is available). Much of the existing housing stock was built before 1970, which makes it difficult to attain a high thermal efficiency standard, thus considerable energy is wasted.

CO2 emissions in the carbon budget related to electricity use from the National Grid in South Cambridgeshire are largely dependent upon national government policy and changes to power generation across the country. It is recommended however that South Cambridgeshire promotes the deployment of low carbon electricity generation within the region and where possible influences national policy on this issue.

Aims

1.

Ensure all buildings owned or operated by the Council contribute to sustainable energy, water and waste usage; for example, by using energy from renewable sources in all the buildings.

2.

Inspire and encourage actions by all our community to ensure we individually contribute to reducing energy use where possible, and using energy as sustainably as possible.
